What İs Bill Of Lading?

What İs Bill Of Lading?

A bill of lading is an accompanying document for the transport of goods. If a consignment note is issued, three copies must be available. One copy remains with the sender, one accompanies the carrier and one remains with the freight. All three must be signed by the sender.

The carrier has to carry the bills of landing with him as he identifies the carrier as the owner and the holder of the documents as the owner and recipient.

If necessary, the carrier can request the sender to issue a consignment note in accordance with Section of the Commercial Code, even if the document is no longer required by law. A copy of the consignment note includes the sender's right of disposition to stop the goods, return them or hand them over to another recipient.

What Does A Consignment Note Say?

A bill of landing can contain the following information; the sender and the shippers memorandum can also agree on further content:

  • Names of the sender, carrier and recipient
  • Date and place of issue of the file
  • Date and place of acceptance of the goods
  • Type of goods
  • kind of package
  • Quantity of packages

Functions Of The Bill Of Landing

Carrier Function

The bill serves as a data carrier about the quantity of the freight for the sender, carrier and recipient. In addition, also for freight forwarders and warehouse keepers.

Evidence function

A consignment note stipulates that the carrier checked the goods and their packaging to ensure that they were in good condition when they were accepted and that the number of pieces of freight and their numbers match the data on the consignment note presumption of evidence.

Acknowledgment Function

The consignment note thus also serves as a receipt for the acceptance process and the condition, the quantity and the numbers.

What is CBM Rate in Shipping?

What is CBM Rate in Shipping?

Several terms play a role in the ocean freight calculation. The CBM calculator for sea freight costs, however, is the size and weight of the sea freight, CBM = cubic meters and to = tons.

How To Calculate Shipping CBM

The higher parameter is used as a calculating sea freight. For example, if the freight has a volume of six CBM, but weighs only one ton, the sea freight calculation is based on volume. In addition, there are other fees, for example customs clearance, port, security or discharge fee. The ratio of weight is also important here.

In maritime shipping, for example, containers are used almost exclusively. The weight plays a role, as long as it does not exceed the load capacity of the container. The volume is more important here. Because the goods have to fit in the container.

What Is Chargeable Weight?

Volume and weight are an important calculation for determining the transport costs, taking into account the particular the means of transport. The aim is to ensure use of loading capacities. Because in this case the company can use its resources and generate profit. The term chargeable weight plays a prominent role here.

The term chargeable weight means the weight of a consignment of goods, on the basis of which the company calculates the costs.

However, the complete weight is not always the actual weight of the goods to be transported. Rather, the volume plays a role and can have an influence on the chargeable weight. To do this, it is necessary to distinguish between important terms: chargeable weight, weighing weight and volume weight.

Container Dimensions

Container Dimensions

Standard shipping containers are used for global transport. The big advantage of transporting one of these containers is the mass worldwide. The container comes from maritime shipping and can be reloaded from the ship in the port with the crane onto the truck or train. Since the freight containers all have the same dimensions, they can easily be stacked on top of one another during storage.

Standard Container

The sea freight container is made of steel and is very tough and weatherproof. With the container sizes, loading and unloading takes place through the two rear doors. This containers are for the transport of commercial goods and are mainly shipped in two sizes.

Open Top and Flat Rack Containers

In addition to the standard sea freight containers, other models are also in use. With these containers, however, it is not about the transport of removal goods, but much more about industrial ones. Often the container can be accessed from above or from the side in order to load and unload the goods with a crane or forklift.

How Big Is A Shipping Container?

  • 20 'and 40' open top container (without roof)
  • 20 'and 40' flat rack containers (without side walls and roof)

Reefer Container

Other containers are the models from the refrigerated container series. These containers are equipped with a cooling unit. What size shipping containers are there? The containers 20 'and 40' are also in dimensions here. The refrigerated containers are mainly used to transport food.

Flat Container

These containers have no side walls. The end walls allow the load to be secured with brackets and enable the boxes to be stacked. The floor is specially reinforced so that flat containers are suitable for very heavy and bulky goods that have to be loaded from the side.

Plat Container

Particularly heavy, oversized goods or individual equipment are in good hands on a plat container. This only has a reinforced floor with gooseneck tunnels, through which the box can be placed on truck trailers, ships.
